CAN YOU RELATE TO THIS?

“I know something needs to change, but I don’t know where to start.”

“Sometimes I feel like I’m failing my kids.”

I don’t feel confident in my parenting, and it affects every part of my life.”

About the program

This 8-week foundations program (formerly the 6-week program), It Starts with Us, rests on one overarching idea. And that is - how we are embodied - that is, how we live and move and feel and behave in our bodies, will impact the relationship dynamic we have with our children (and others we’re in relationship with). And until we can learn to embody safety, learn to attune to ourselves (to deeply know ourselves and our needs, wishes and desires), and until we can relate to ourselves from a place of care and acceptance, we will struggle to heal and become fully present to life.

Why? Because it’s out of our disconnection and the lack of safety we find within ourselves that we recreate the thoughts, beliefs & behaviors that keep us from fully inhabiting our bodies, and creating new and empowering experiences. A self divided cannot feel whole.

This is why the work starts with us before it can alter the course for our kids, too. When we’re stuck in the momentum of past patterns; they’ll keep us from defining our relationship with our children in a way that feels good and deeply nourishing to us, and in a way that most aligns with what we value. This is true for our partners, friends and family, too.

Intuitively, we know this.  We know that the habits we most wish to change that keep us stuck in the same old story.

The 8-week foundations program is a program for women and mothers who desire to have a new experience of themselves. It’s a program for women who want to become more conscious and awake the those patterns and start taking practical steps to change them.

This program is for women who want to reclaim (or claim for the first time) self-trust, confidence and sovereignty and are willing to do the work to get there.

The program will introduce both conceptual learning - ideas, perspectives and research that can transform our understanding, as well as the practice it takes to internalize what we learn so that it becomes an embodied understanding.

I deeply believe that the work that we do in a program like this is a powerful way of empowering our children (boys and girls) to grow up to be confident men and women who know themselves deeply, trust and have confidence in themselves, and who will change the trajectory of our experience as women in this world as a result.

I believe knowing myself as deeply as I do now grants me a sovereignty and an ownership over my life and my experience of it that no one can take away. And I want that for all the women I work with.

“This course was the missing piece in all the learning, self-study and self-change I tried for more than 20 years. You’ll learn how you can affect positive change with your thoughts, emotions, and behaviour — and ultimately make the changes you wish to become, the person and mum you would like to be.”

Carolyn E.

How will the course work?

(psst…I will provide this information to you again as we go, so don’t worry about remembering all the details. You’ll be given step-by-step instruction and guidance)

Each week we will explore a topic in 6 different modules.  You can see a visual overview below. These modules will be released over an 8-week period, with 2 (two) implementation/practice weeks between weeks 2 and 3, and weeks 4 and 5. This offers you the chance to catch up on the material, and have some time to integrate your learning.

Each week on Monday mornings (11am CEST) that week’s lesson will be delivered via Zoom. If you can make it “live”, then you’re welcome to join and we’d have time for any questions about the lesson directly afterwards. If you can’t make it live, no worries! All lessons are recorded and are then be uploaded to Kajabi to be viewed on-demand for whenever you can watch it during the week. (*once in the program, you’ll have access to the course material for the lifetime of the course).

Each week there will be one foundational practice for you to work with throughout the week - the audio will be available to you on the course platform, and also for use & download via Soundcloud (which also has an app!)

Each week on Friday afternoons (3pm CEST) during the program run, there will be one “live” Community Support session with Q&A time. Expect 1-1.5 hours for this. (Come for as long as you can, and if you can’t make it, you can watch the recording afterwards).

Community. There is a community area in the course platform that we can use to discuss the lessons between sessions. I will use it to share supporting resources as well, and you can use it to ask questions, share experiences, or resources that relate to the the work we’re doing.

ALL INFORMATION & INSTRUCTIONS YOU NEED TO ACCESS THE COURSE MATERIALS & SESSIONS WILL BE SENT TO YOU VIA EMAIL EACH TIME YOU NEED IT.

In this eight-week course, we will:

  • Lay a foundation for deep self-acceptance and self-compassion

  • Explore the foundation of how we came to experience ourselves, in our bodies, as we do today (self-understanding as an act of self-love)

  • Experience your beautifully designed nervous system, how it works, and how to work with the nervous system to learn self-regulation (what we often didn’t learn to do), and increase capacity and resilience within it

  • Experience what safety feels like in the body

  • Learn & experience the language of the animal body for greater clarity, confidence and an embodied sense of self-trust

  • Recognize how the state of your nervous system impacts your relationships (with partners, with children)

  • Expand emotional resilience and learn equanimity in how we respond

  • Find boundaries within the body

  • Getting clear on the push & the pull as part of an informed intuition (for boundary setting and being in relationship)

Breakdown of what we’ll cover…

Visual Content (1).png

Module 1 - Radical Self-Acceptance. It can’t be overstated how important this feature of our time together is. This module will focus on helping us shift our perspective of ourselves and foster a more non-judgmental approach towards the life that we are. This module is all about promoting self-care and setting the foundation for the work to come.

Module 2 - Authenticity and Attachment. We work here from the premise that we have a learned disconnection from the intelligence of our bodies and how this impacts our experience of freedom, connection and belonging. We’ll talk about how that happens and the really important reasons why (this is learning for us as parents, too), but also how it becomes a lived experience that often results in chronic stress, anxiety and unhelpful and unskillful patterns of thinking and behavior. We’ll also talk about HOW this can change and how we can help try and preserve our children’s connection to themselves.

Module 3  - Your Beautiful Nervous System (aka A Safe Foundation). We’ll do a deep dive into a look at the autonomic nervous system, and how it becomes dysregulated over a lifetime of managing unhelpful beliefs and behaviors.  Our ability to self-regulate & experience resilience in life was compromised for many of us by how our unprocessed experiences keep us locked in defensive stress response. In this workshop, we’ll learn how to bring regulation powerfully back to our system, and increase capacity and flexibility within it again.  We’ll also explore how we can help our children regulate their systems in moments of distress.

Module 4  - Animal of our Bodies. We go deeper into the world of our bodies.  This workshop will focus on connecting to the intelligence & wisdom of the body that most of us had when we came into the world, but that gets conditioned out of us as children.  Connecting to this experience is the basis of our ability to “know” what’s happening for us in all our moments, and its the entryway into a knowledge of what the body is communicating to us.  This is the foundation for an experience of self-trust.

Module 5 - Embodying our Boundaries.  Boundaries are communicated through the body. We’ll explore boundaries from the perspective that we need to be able to say experience and express a firm, assertive and (guilt-free) “no” before we can give a heartfelt “yes”; what that means and how that looks. Sounds easier than it feels sometimes, but we’ll work on this together. We’ll also explore how we can understand and work with boundaries with our kids.

Module 6  - Emotions! Many of us have a relationship with our emotions (especially the “difficult” emotions) in which we find ourselves either overwhelmed by them or shut off from them.  In this workshop we’ll explore a perspective on emotions that can give us insight into how they serve as guidance for us, and how we can learn to allow them to function that way.  We’ll also learn how the work we’re doing leads to equanimity in our emotions and more regulation in how we experience them. We’ll also explore the link between emotions and boundaries.

P.S. There will be some bonus content after week 6!

*One of the benefits of an online program like this is that - while we’ll have opportunities to engage with each other (in the community and via Zoom, for example), you’re not REQUIRED to watch the videos or do the practices at specific times, so the program is flexible for you.

What’s expected of you?

Just your full-hearted participation.  Come into the program with as much willingness as possible to learn. Bring your healthy skepticism with and TEST the concepts out through the practices.  All feedback is welcome, including very constructive feedback, but critical and judgmental comments towards me or any other participant is not allowed in the program. Some of the most important work of my life is to create non-judgmental spaces where we feel free to explore our human experience together in the service of deeper understanding and transformation.

Your teacher for the program?

I’m your teacher, Karine. I’m a somatic educator & mindfulness teacher. The focus here is on education, self-awareness building and nervous system rewiring as we get in touch with a direct and embodied experience of ourselves through the work we do in the program.

It Starts with Us (3).png

This program is based on a blend of theories and practices that I’m trained to teach (meditation, mindfulness & nervous system healing), and that I have extensive experience with myself. I wouldn’t be teaching this program if I hadn’t myself lived this journey and witnessed how these concepts and practices have revolutionized my life (and continue to do so)!

This program is a roadmap, and I’m your guide. I teach and blend meditation, mindfulness and body-based awareness & somatic practices with a love of research and streams of inspiration. I’m an anthropologist by training as well so my love of people and culture comes with us. More than that, I’m a curious woman who is passionate about this topic. Few things inspire me more than the idea of sovereign living for women. I’m writing my own story in this life, and I’m teaching my kids to do the same.

Enrollment for the next round of the program will begin in August, 2019. to receive notification when enrollment opens, register your name here.

With your investment comes full lifetime access to the course program and all program content (plus upgrades and additional content added in future). Program materials will be downloadable and can be used year-round on an on-demand basis as well as join each new round of the “live” program.

HOW MUCH TIME WILL THE program REQUIRE?

Most women need about 2-3 hours per week to go through the lessons and practices. You’re never behind, though — you can work at your own pace, because you have lifetime access to all the materials. You can also access the material in different ways, so if you don’t have time to read through lessons, you can listen to them on the go.

WHAT KIND OF SUPPORT CAN I EXPECT?

Inside the program, you’ll have access to a private online community forum (not on Facebook) where you’ll  be able to interact with others on the journey. During each week of lessons, you’ll also have access to “live” Q&A coaching & training calls (via Zoom) to work through challenges that come up for you.

HOW IS THE MATERIAL DELIVERED?

Course materials are delivered in video, written (transcripts), and audio lessons to accommodate different learning styles and to fit into your busy life. Materials will be downloadable and portable. So they can travel with you wherever you go. You have access to the materials forever — one student said it was like having a personal library of resources she can dip into whenever she needs help.

I WANT TO LEARN SPECIFIC STRATEGIES TO WORK WITH MY CHILD'S DIFFICULT BEHAVIOR - IS THIS THE RIGHT PROGRAM FOR ME?

Our focus here is not “parenting strategies,” though you will find suggested approaches. Instead, the program works from the premise that profound changes are possible within the child's experience when mom's experience changes.  The more balance, capacity, and regulation that mom has within her system, and the more mom feels within herself a foundation of safety and self-trust, the more this is communicated to her children in her strength and capacity.  In fact, based on what I know from my own experience, and the experience of working with people in the cultivation of awareness, trying to implement practices and strategies on top of an insecure foundation is not sustainable. I'd always start with mom first.

SHOULD MY CHILDREN BE A CERTAIN AGE FOR ME TO WORK THROUGH THIS PROGRAM?

While this program will benefit to moms of children at any age, the information that focuses on children focuses more on post-verbal ages — somewhere between 3 or 4 and 11 or 12.  Significant hormonal shifts take place for boys & girls ages 9 and up, and even more so when they reach their teenage years. Still, the vast majority of the program will benefit all moms.
